The Drop Redoubt is a Palmerston Fort in the Western Heights defence complex for Dover, in Kent in England. The defensive network extended to seek to make Dover impregnable from the landward side, and to contain any invasion of the port to the port area itself.
The redoubt was excavated some 30 to 40 feet into the cliff top and protected by a vertical walled dry moat, and by vertical walled rides through which reinforcements could move in protected cover to various parts of the fortifications. The redoubt was intended to be a position of last defence, self contained, heavily armed and fortified, provisioned from the less well defended barracks alongside it.

Public access
Every year the redoubt is opened by volunteers from the Western Heights Preservation Society for visitors. Despite the nominal ownership by English Heritage there is a separate entrance fe payable to the society, money which goes directly to the mammoth task of preserving the structures. The open days usually show examples of how the fort was manned.
